Harry KimaniThe Passionate HustlerHarry Kimani has carved a niche for himself as one of the most explosive afro-fusion talents in recent history. In a musical career spanning less than five years he can boast of two albums 'Unborn' and 'Tuishi Mi Nawe'Harry Kimani's musical journey dates back to 15 years ago when his brother introduced him to the box guitar which has since become the 'love of his life'. Following years of horning his skills under the watchful eye of his brother he finally decided to try his hand at recording at the turn of the millennium. Armed only with his guitar, lyrics and a burning desire he ventured into the then not so promising music industry. Opportunity came in the form of Next level Studios where he recorded his first single 'African Woman', a celebration of African beauty which was immediately embraced by fans who considered it a timely classic. The buzz that came with African Woman's did not go unnoticed as he soon joined the list of Kenyan artistes invited through Sarakasi Trust to perform in the prestigious Festival Mundial in the Netherlands. Having successfully completed his Dutch tour he embarked on recording his first album Unborn at the Underground Studios with notable appearances from among others Bamboo, Attitude, and Mercy Myra. The album was well received but perhaps aiming to reach out to a wider audience, Harry Kimani released another single and video 'Haiya' which did just that, immediately turned him into a household name. The sudden demand for his music sent him back to the studio once again but this time thousands of miles from home in Wisseloord Studios in the Netherlands where he recorded his second album 'Tuishi Mi Nawe' accompanied by piano, violin, cello and other classical instruments. The album is a rare blend of African lyrics and western instrumentation that sets Harry Kimani apart from other afro fusion artistes. His vocals have come of age and the lyrics are delivered with passion unmatched by other artistes. The album was produced and is currently distributed under Sarakasi Trust's Sawa Sawa Fair trade label which seeks to even the playfield for local artistes by presenting world class recording and distribution opportunities. Apart from his vocal prowess Harry Kimani delivers a powerful performance both as a solo act or with a band and is ideal for any type of event. He has most recently brought down the house while performing during the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam, North Sea Jazz salutes Nairobi (which doubled as his album launch), and Dutch band BLØF's Umoja Project launch in Amsterdam. |
