PETER GITHUA TO BE HONORED AT THE DOMEOne of Sarakasi's founding trustees; the late Peter Githua is set to be immortalized with the unveiling of the Peter Githua Board Room within the Trust's new premises at the Sarakasi Dome. The late Githua served the Trust selflessly until his untimely demise in 2005 and played an integral part in the establishment of the organization. He helped the Trust formalize its vision and always stayed committed to its activities despite his hectic career and social schedule and for that is most fitting of this honor. Always the pioneer, Mr.Githua played an active role in the growth of Kenya Breweries Limited (now East Africa Breweries) and more specifically Tusker as a brand. He served the company for many years till his retirement. He was also an accomplished golf player winning numerous trophies and accolades first as a member of the Muthaiga Golf Club and later as the captain of the Kenyan team. The Sarakasi Dome and Base are slated for a grand opening on the evening of 30th May 2008 in a VIP event that will also double as the launch of this year's Celtel Sawa Sawa Festival 2008. The Festival runs from 30th May with performances from Baaba Maal featuring Daande Lenol (Senegal), Mahotella Queens (South Africa), Ustad Rafat Khan Niyazi (India), Jua kali Drummers (Kenya), Percus Nomades (Benin), Kanji Mbugua (Kenya), Makadem (Kenya) on Saturday 31st May 2008 and Black Uhuru (Jamaica), Heart and Soul (Kenya), General Onyx (Kenya), The Warriors (Kenya) and Beef (Netherlands) on Sunday 31st May 2008. The Dome will be the operational base of East Africa's premier Arts and Culture organization, Sarakasi Trust. The Dome boasts vast acrobatic training space, sufficient office space, a modern dance studio and theatre among other attractive amenities. Kenyan artistes can now smile with the establishment of the Sarakasi Dome; which will give room for alternative art spaces that theatre loves and artistes have been yearning for all conveniently located away from the busy city centre. It is situated on Ngara Road (past the Globe round right opposite the Ngara Post Office) which hosts a mixture of Kenyan culture.
